Description
ColeusÃÂ is a formerÃÂ genusÃÂ ofÃÂ flowering plantsÃÂ in theÃÂ familyÃÂ Lamiaceae.. In recent classifications, the genus is no longer recognized, and the formerly included species are instead placed in the generaÃÂ PlectranthusÃÂ andÃÂ Solenostemon.[1][2]ÃÂ Because theÃÂ type species,ÃÂ Coleus amboinicusÃÂ & x28;Plectranthus amboinicus& x29; is now placed inÃÂ Plectranthus,ÃÂ ColeusÃÂ is regarded as aÃÂ synonymÃÂ ofÃÂ Plectranthus. The term & x22;coleus& x22; is often used as aÃÂ common nameÃÂ for species formerly placed in the genusÃÂ ColeusÃÂ that are cultivated asÃÂ ornamental plants, particularlyÃÂ Coleus blumeiÃÂ & x28;Plectranthus scutellarioides& x29;, which is popular as a garden plant for its brightly colored foliage. This plant prefers bright, but indirect sunlight. If direct sunlight touches the plants leaves the colors become less brightly colored. Outside this plant needs total shade or only the most mild morning sunlight.
